US Condemns Jewish Violence in West Bank; Commander Calls Attack Unprecedented

The United States has condemned what it termed "Jewish terrorism" in the West Bank village of Jalud, following a violent incident where over 100 Israelis attempted to prevent a Palestinian family from returning to their home. A senior US State Department official told N12 News that Washington is "aware of the events" and "condemns criminal violence by any party in the West Bank," supporting investigations and legal proceedings against those responsible. The official added that the US maintains ongoing dialogue with Israel to improve stability and security in the region.

The commander of the Israeli forces present at the scene described the violence as unprecedented, stating, "We have never experienced such vigorous violence against the fighting forces in our lives." He recounted that between 100 and 200 rioters, some smelling of alcohol, acted with a clear intent to harm the soldiers. The commander noted that when crowd dispersal means were exhausted, live fire was considered but not used, as per orders. He described the situation as life-threatening, with large rocks and burning tires thrown at them, crossing a "bright red line" of attacking security forces.

The Israeli military reported that soldiers and Border Police operated in Jalud after the disturbance by Israelis attempting to block the family's return, which had been coordinated in advance following nationalist crime incidents against them. The military stated the mission to return the family was not completed due to the violence. Videos from the scene showed fires and property damage, including a vehicle and a home being set ablaze.

During the operation, three Israeli youths aged 15, 17, and 18 were arrested. Two were apprehended by the IDF and transferred to police, while the third was arrested by police near the village. Investigators found items including face coverings and a baton in one suspect's vehicle, which was seized along with another vehicle suspected of being used by the rioters. Three Border Police officers sustained minor injuries, and damage was caused to a security forces vehicle.
