Hapoel Jerusalem Opens European Season Against Rostock in Belgrade
Hapoel Jerusalem is set to begin its European basketball season Tuesday evening, hosting German team Rostock in Belgrade. This marks their return to European competition six months after being eliminated in the quarterfinals last season. The team is considering relocating its home games from Belgrade to Cyprus, a move also being explored by Maccabi and Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Lorenzo Brown, signed as a temporary replacement for the injured Jared Harper, will not be in the squad for coach Sasa Obradovic's team. Rostock's key players include Estonian center Arttur Kunc and American point guard T.J. Crockett. Notably, Rostock features two former Israeli Basketball Premier League players: Todd Withers, who played for Hapoel Holon last year, and Jonathan Stobbs, formerly of Galil Elyon.
In the first quarter, Hapoel Jerusalem started with Eitan Boruch, Jalen Smith, David Roddy, Kenny Lofton Jr., and Dusan Miletic. Miletic scored the first points, but Copeland responded with five for Rostock, giving them a 3-5 lead. Roddy then scored four consecutive points to regain the lead for Jerusalem, and a three-pointer by Lofton extended it to 10-5.
