Besiktas to Host Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Batumi with Fans
Turkish club Besiktas will host Israeli side Hapoel Be'er Sheva on November 26, 2026, in the fifth round of the Europa League. The match, however, will not take place in Turkey. Besiktas President Serdal Adali announced that the game will be held in Batumi, Georgia, and will be played in front of a crowd.
"For us, it didn't make a particularly big difference. We will play our match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Batumi and with fans," Adali stated. He also commented on UEFA's decision not to preemptively prevent draws between Israeli and Turkish teams.
Adali explained that there was no need to file an additional appeal to prevent Israeli clubs from being drawn against Turkish clubs, citing similar precedents set by UEFA. He added that UEFA officials acknowledged after the draw that such pairings were not unforeseen and expressed regret that it had happened again, noting, "In these cases, our luck is not so good."
