Netanyahu Reportedly Met With Libyan Military Official in UAE

Italian newspaper Il Foglio has reported on a supposed meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Libyan politician Saddam Haftar, the deputy commander of forces controlling eastern Libya and the son of Khalifa Haftar. The alleged meeting took place in the United Arab Emirates amid Haftar's efforts to strengthen ties with the United States and Western countries. Haftar is reportedly seeking meetings with high-ranking U.S. administration officials, including Vice President JD Vance.

Il Foglio based its report on coinciding flight schedules and a source. On Monday, Netanyahu arrived at Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi, and shortly thereafter, an Airbus A319, registration P4-KH5I9, typically used by Saddam Haftar, also landed. Haftar's plane landed at 12:40 p.m., 20 minutes after Netanyahu's arrival.

Mohamed Buisiar, a former political advisor to Khalifa Haftar, stated on social media that the coincidence was not accidental and that Saddam Haftar met Netanyahu to secure political support for his presidential candidacy in Libya. The newspaper also cited its own sources indicating that Saddam Haftar intends to meet JD Vance in Washington, following a June meeting with Marco Rubio, and is attempting to establish contact with U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.
