Investment App Mitbestrade Reports Major Data Breach Exposing Customer Bank Details
Mitbestrade, an investment trading application, disclosed a significant data security breach to the stock exchange on Tuesday. The breach resulted in the exposure of customer bank account numbers and identity card details. The incident came to light after customers received text messages containing one-time authentication codes on Saturday.
Following the discovery, the company initiated a thorough investigation with external cybersecurity experts. Their findings indicated that approximately 3,000 text messages, each with a unique authentication code, were sent to customers. The investigation also revealed isolated attempts by an external party to alter the phone number designated for receiving these codes, though these attempts were unsuccessful and no changes were completed.
Further analysis confirmed that a function was activated by an external actor to extract personal information from affected accounts. This exposed data includes full names, identity card numbers, and bank account numbers. Mitbestrade has stated that the breach did not compromise customer funds, their trading accounts within the app, or access to the trading systems themselves.
