Mossad's Pager Operation Against Hezbollah Detailed in New Documentary

Two years after thousands of pagers used by Hezbollah in Lebanon were remotely detonated, new details about the Mossad operation are emerging following the lifting of publication restrictions in Israel. The documentary "Paging Hezbollah," directed by Justin Polk, reveals how Israeli intelligence infiltrated the militant group's supply chain to deliver the compromised devices.

The film outlines a multi-year effort involving the design, marketing, and distribution of the pagers, with the goal of convincing Hezbollah of their reliability while secretly trapping them. One significant revelation is the alleged assassination of a Hezbollah member who suspected the pagers were compromised. According to the documentary, Israel carried out a strike, officially targeting someone else, to eliminate this individual.

As doubts within Hezbollah grew, Iran reportedly sent an X-ray device to inspect the pagers, which Israel also reportedly destroyed. Former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had previously alluded to these events shortly after the operation, but his statements were subject to censorship. He explained that growing suspicions within Hezbollah forced Israeli officials to decide between triggering the operation or risking the devices' discovery.

"Paging Hezbollah," set for release on October 30, features interviews with key figures including Benjamin Netanyahu, former Mossad chief David Barnea, and Northern Regional Military Commander Ori Gordin.
