Otzma Yehudit Seeks to Submit New Evidence Against Balad MK in Disqualification Case

The Otzma Yehudit party is requesting to submit new evidence to the Supreme Court against Sami Abu Shahadeh, chairman of the Balad party, in the ongoing disqualification proceedings against him. The evidence consists of a video from December 2023, in which Abu Shahadeh was interviewed by Qatar's Al-Arabi channel. In the interview, he described the "steadfast resilience" of the resistance in Gaza as "legendary," stating he knew of no similar case in military history. He also questioned how Israeli society was coping with the ongoing war, the government's perceived lack of answers regarding hostages and military decisions, and the "legendary" defense capabilities of the resistance, which he claimed surprised Israel.

Otzma Yehudit's request is considered unusual because the legal process against Abu Shahadeh has already concluded at the Central Elections Committee. Legal experts anticipate that the Supreme Court will likely reject the request, as it is not customary to introduce new evidence at this stage of the proceedings, especially after a decision has been made and a hearing is scheduled.

Abu Shahadeh's comments also referenced an article published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which he claimed highlighted the resistance's surprise to Israel not only in its attack but also in its defense and ability to maintain its leadership and connection with its fighters. The party Balad has not yet responded to requests for comment.
