Police Investigate Channel 14 Analyst for Inciting Racism Over Hospital Poisoning Claims

Israel Police have launched a criminal probe into Micha Lakin-Avni, an analyst for Channel 14, on suspicion of inciting racism. The investigation follows statements made by Lakin-Avni during a broadcast in which he alleged that Arab medical staff in Israeli hospitals poison Jewish patients and that these incidents are being covered up.

The probe was initiated after Lakin-Avni's remarks caused public outcry. During the broadcast, he stated, "In our hospitals, there are Arab doctors and Arab nurses who poison Jews and this is hushed up day by day." The police are currently conducting a preliminary criminal examination, not a full investigation, and will assess the statements and their context before deciding on further action.

Prior to the police action, the State Employees' Doctors Organization had appealed to Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, demanding a criminal investigation. The organization argued that Lakin-Avni's accusations against a segment of the medical profession could endanger Arab doctors and nurses, harm their professional standing, and erode public trust in the healthcare system. They also requested the preservation of broadcast recordings and other evidence.

The police's preliminary examination signifies a shift of the issue from public discourse to legal scrutiny. A final decision on whether to proceed with a formal criminal investigation will be made by the police upon completion of their review.
