Rabbi Calls for Unity to Overcome National Challenges

Rabbi Shlomo Ben Hamo, the chief rabbi of Kiryat Gat, emphasized the importance of national unity during a Torah conference, particularly in light of the ongoing election period and the war against Israel's enemies. He connected the concept of unity to the Sukkot holiday and the ritual of the Four Species.

Rabbi Ben Hamo explained that Sukkot is a festival of gratitude and unity, encompassing the unity of the Torah, creation, and the people of Israel. He stated that this unity is especially crucial when the nation faces its adversaries, drawing a parallel to the ritual of holding the Four Species together as a symbol of unity among the diverse types of Jews.

Addressing the practice of waving the Four Species, Rabbi Ben Hamo cited rabbinic tradition that this action can avert evil spirits and decrees. He elaborated that the Four Species hold a special status as they are under God's direct providence, and by using them, the Jewish people seek to nullify harsh decrees against them. He added that the people of Israel are also under divine providence.

The rabbi concluded by praying for the safety and success of the IDF soldiers, asking God to give them strength to defeat the enemy and bring them home safely. He stressed that national unity is central to Israel's redemption and rebuilding of the land, asserting that greater unity will lead to the liberation of the land and its complete redemption.
