Hapoel Be'er Sheva Sues Hapoel HaEmek Over Player Transfer Fees

Hapoel Be'er Sheva is suing Hapoel HaEmek for "development fees" related to the transfer of basketball player C.J. E Lby. Be'er Sheva claims they are owed fees for E Lby, who was a key player for them last season before moving to HaEmek in the summer. Initially, HaEmek refused to pay, but the league's "Dachatz" committee ruled that they must pay Be'er Sheva.

HaEmek appealed the decision, arguing that E Lby did not complete a full season due to the "war with Iran," and that the committee's initial ruling was based on this. A subsequent discussion led to a decision that the clubs should try to reach an agreement before the league management makes a final ruling. However, Be'er Sheva stated that their attempts to discuss the matter with HaEmek have gone unanswered.

E Lby was a standout player for Be'er Sheva/Dimona last season and also had talks with Hapoel Jerusalem before joining HaEmek. The dispute centers on the development fees for his transfer. Yonatan Allon, HaEmek's professional manager, commented that "emergency regulations" from the league management have led to changes in the rules regarding development fees for the 2025/26 season. He added that discussions are ongoing between the clubs and the league management in a "good atmosphere" and that an agreement is expected soon. Allon also mentioned a separate issue with Kiryat Ata regarding player Malik Hall.
