AI-Generated Fake Accounts Linked to Ben-Gvir's Party in Influence Network

An investigation by "Fake Reporter," as reported by Israel's Channel 12, has uncovered an online influence network comprising over 100 fake accounts. These accounts allegedly used artificial intelligence-generated images to conduct coordinated activities on social media platforms. The investigation linked this network to the "Otzma Yehudit" party, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The network's activities reportedly extended beyond targeting political opponents of the party to include individuals and entities aligned with or close to the same political camp. The investigation identified targets such as Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, General Ofek Winter, and the Israeli Channel 14 as having been attacked by these accounts.

According to the report, some of the accounts utilized fake identities and AI-generated profile pictures, creating the illusion of independent, real users while operating as a single, coordinated network. This operation occurred amidst the increasing importance of social media as a venue for political conflict and message dissemination.

"Fake Reporter" stated that the accounts operated in a coordinated manner to spread messages and content against specific individuals and media outlets. Similar activity patterns were observed across multiple accounts, suggesting they were part of a unified network. Previously, "Fake Reporter" had exposed a similar network of about 100 bot accounts targeting General Ofek Winter, noting the use of AI-generated images and hundreds of posts against him since August.

While the investigation concluded that the network is linked to Ben-Gvir's "Otzma Yehudit" party, the report did not include a response from the party. This revelation comes as the Israeli political landscape prepares for elections, where digital activity is becoming increasingly crucial. Experts have warned about the growing use of AI and automated accounts in political influence campaigns.
