Hostage Survivor Bar Cooperstein Leads Unifying Prayers at Western Wall

Bar Cooperstein, a survivor of Hamas captivity, is actively promoting unity and connection to Jewish tradition following his release. Cooperstein, who was held captive for 738 days after being abducted from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, has been participating in religious events and initiating efforts to bridge divides within Israeli society.

Recently, Cooperstein facilitated a live broadcast connecting the Western Wall in Jerusalem with the Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. This event brought together fellow former hostages and families of fallen hostages for a joint prayer with crowds in Jerusalem, emphasizing solidarity and remembrance.

Cooperstein shared his profound gratitude for being able to celebrate the Sukkot holiday freely in Israel, contrasting it with his captivity. "Last year, I could only dream of praying because you have no prayer book, you have nothing," he stated, recalling the absence of a sukkah in the tunnels. "Here, you have the privilege to truly be in a sukkah and pray together with all of Israel during the Priestly Blessing. It's truly moving."

His mother, Julie, previously noted Cooperstein's deepening faith during his ordeal, stating he entered captivity not as a religious person but emerged with a strengthened belief. Cooperstein's current participation in the traditional Priestly Blessing ceremony at the Western Wall marks nearly a year since his return to Israel.
