Israel Warns Citizens of Strict New Customs Checks in Netherlands

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel warning to citizens planning trips to the Netherlands, alerting them to potential lengthy and intrusive customs inspections upon arrival. The advisory follows recent reports of passengers arriving from Israel facing extended baggage checks.

These intensified checks are a consequence of a new Dutch decree that took effect on September 22nd. The decree imposes restrictions on the import of goods originating from the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. The Ministry emphasized that violating these regulations constitutes a criminal offense, potentially leading to fines or even imprisonment.

Consequently, personal belongings carried by travelers could be subject to scrutiny based on their origin and the decree's provisions. The restrictions extend beyond mere import, also prohibiting commercial activities related to these goods, including buying, selling, and brokering.

The Ministry advises Israelis traveling to the Netherlands to familiarize themselves with the new regulations beforehand and prepare for the possibility of extended customs procedures.
