Hostage Survivor Mia Schem Finds New Meaning in Morning Prayers
Mia Schem, a hostage released after 55 days in captivity, shared how she maintained her faith and hope during her ordeal. She explained that upon her return, traditional Jewish morning prayers, particularly "Blessed is He who frees the captive," took on a profound and strengthening significance.
Schem described how simple acts like being able to get up and walk became cherished dreams while she was held by Hamas. During her captivity, she repeatedly visualized her future, imagining herself getting married, continuing her life, and engaging in advocacy.
She recounted how, immediately after being abducted, she focused on the fact that she was alive, telling herself, "Everything is good," to calm herself. This act of clinging to the positive, she said, was what sustained her through the difficult experience. Schem also revealed that she is eager to become a mother and start a family, expressing a strong desire to marry and emphasizing that this represents continuity and the essence of life, especially after witnessing life pass by during her captivity.
Schem shared these reflections during "The Daniel Dushy Podcast," where she also spoke about her desire for marriage and a future family, even though she is not currently in a relationship. She expressed anticipation for the person with whom she will eventually build a life.
