Fox Group to Allow Online Redemption of Store Credit Vouchers
An Israeli court has approved a settlement allowing customers of the Fox Group to redeem store credit vouchers online, in addition to physical stores. The ruling resolves a class-action lawsuit that claimed the company unfairly restricted voucher usage to brick-and-mortar locations. Fox Group has completed the necessary technological development to enable online redemption across its brands, including FOX, FOX HOME, Shils, Laline, Itay Brands, and Foot Locker.
As compensation for the past restriction, Fox Group will provide a total benefit of approximately NIS 527,000 (USD 140,000) to the public. This will be distributed as a NIS 10 "blind discount" on every purchase, either online or in-store, for three months or until the total amount is depleted. The company will also update its vouchers to state they are redeemable without restriction.
The lawsuit, initially filed in January 2025, argued that restricting voucher use to physical stores was an illegal limitation, causing harm to consumers. The plaintiff's lawyer, Assaf Cohen, stated that this settlement is crucial for consumers and hopes other retail chains will follow suit, especially after the court's recommendation.
Fox Group had initially disputed the claims, arguing that consumer protection laws applied only to physical stores. However, they later developed the technology and agreed to the settlement, which the court deemed a fair resolution, noting the significant technological investment made by the company. The court also awarded NIS 93,000 in fees and expenses to the plaintiff and their legal counsel.
