Ashdod Women's Basketball Team Opens Season With Victory Over Holon
Maccabi Ashdod began the 2026/27 Women's Premier League basketball season with a hard-fought 77-70 victory over Elitzur Holon in a highly anticipated matchup between two teams aiming for the championship. The opening game of the season was a close contest throughout, with Holon often holding a slight lead. However, Ashdod managed to pull ahead in the final quarter, largely due to the stellar performance of naturalized Israeli player Avery Myers.
Maya Emlich of Holon narrowed the gap to three points in the final quarter, but Myers, who led Ashdod to a championship in the 2024/25 season, stepped up in the crucial "money time." Her late-game surge, combined with contributions from Dalia Daniels, secured the win for Ashdod and prevented a Holon comeback. Myers finished with 18 points, while Daniels led Ashdod with 20 points.
For Holon, Ashley Owusu scored a team-high 19 points, followed by Stasha Carey with 18 points. Tanya Atkinson added 14 points for Holon. The game marked Myers' return to the Ashdod team.
