Israeli Triathlete Denied Competition With National Flag

Israeli Olympic triathlete Shachar Sagiv was prevented from competing with the Israeli flag and the word "ISRAEL" on his uniform during the Triathlon Grand Final in Pontevedra, Spain. Sagiv, 31, finished 31st out of 65 competitors in the Olympic distance event, which included a 1500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run. The competition was held under heavy security due to expressions of hatred towards Israel.

Sagiv experienced a difficult race, starting with a poor swim. He managed to catch up during the cycling portion, joining the second group, 40 seconds behind the leaders, which included Olympic medalists. During the run, he suffered from hamstring cramps, forcing him to stop and stretch. He was able to continue and improve his position in the second lap.

Following the event, Sagiv stated, "This is not the result I wanted to achieve." He attributed his performance to a three-month training layoff due to a leg injury, which he believes has prevented him from returning to peak competitive form. Sagiv expressed confidence that with upcoming races, he will regain his previous performance levels, with three more competitions scheduled before the season concludes.
