Deri threatens to block coalition bills until arrests of yeshiva students are halted
Shas chairman Aryeh Deri said at a faction meeting that his party will not support any coalition legislation unless two bills move forward first: a law to stop the arrests of Torah students and a Basic Law on Torah study.
Deri said the arrests of Torah learners were violent and must end. He added that he had already informed the coalition chairman of Shas's position.
The statement raises pressure within the coalition as Shas ties its legislative backing to progress on the two religiously focused initiatives.
