Ireland Coach Calls Recent Days Toughest of Career Ahead of Israel Match

Ireland's national football team coach, Hákon Hallgrímsson, described the past week as the most challenging of his career and that of his players, ahead of their Nations League match against Israel on Sunday. "This was the most challenging days for me as a coach, and I assume it's true for all of us, including the players. It's a situation we haven't been in before," Hallgrímsson told the Irish press. He acknowledged the mixed emotions among his young squad regarding the game, stating his priority is to protect them while focusing on the football itself. "It's complicated. It's a bit like I said before... there will always be things that one side or the other will object to. And no matter what you do, there will always be people who are against it. Therefore, as I said, it's simply a situation where it's hard to do all the things right."

Hallgrímsson admitted that preparations for the match were "very bad" due to the circumstances. "I just hope the players will come here and put on a good performance. We are here to play football. I really hope we can unite around the team after this event," he concluded. He expressed hope that the team would emerge stronger from the experience, despite the difficult and complex situation.
