Finn Azaz, a midfielder for the Irish national football team with Israeli roots, reportedly delivered an emotional speech to his teammates on two separate occasions to present the Israeli perspective amid controversy surrounding a match against Israel. The discussions within the team reportedly centered on whether to participate in the game, with some players expressing strong opposition to Israeli policies in Gaza and Lebanon.

Azaz, whose mother is Israeli and whose grandmother served as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces, spoke at team meetings held on Friday in Pristina and Saturday in Debrecen, Hungary. He aimed to share the Israeli viewpoint on the ongoing debate within the squad. Irish media outlets noted that it was not easy to voice this stance in the locker room, given the significant opposition from some players.
