Israeli Alternative Band DXM Announces New Album After 19 Years

The influential Israeli alternative band DXM, which was active in the 1980s, is set to release a new album titled "Wondering" on October 12th. The band, whose name is an acronym for Deus Ex Machina, was formed in 1984 by Yariv Alter, Ronen Hoffman, Doron Solomon, and Shmulik Barkovitz. An earlier iteration of the group included Avi Conforti, who later became a renowned chef. Karni Postel later joined DXM, contributing her cello.

DXM's music blended rock, industrial, electronic, noise, and performance art. Their early performances incorporated industrial objects and tools, such as drills and car engines, to create their unique sound, similar to contemporaries like Drorolex Sedlex. Their debut performance, "Industrial Phase," took place at the Penguin club in Tel Aviv.

The band's early work resulted in rare cassette releases and the acclaimed 1993 album "Grin." Their experimental and industrial music gained a following among international fans of niche genres, receiving exposure on alternative music platforms outside of Israel. "Wondering" marks the band's first new material in 19 years, following the suicide of their frontman, Yariv Alter. The album will also be released on vinyl, according to the band's Facebook page.
