Channel 14 Host Yaara Zered Opens Family Home During Sukkot Holiday After Father's Death

Channel 14 news anchor Yaara Zered is mourning the recent passing of her father, Shalom Zered. She eulogized him on social media, calling him "my dear, wise, good, and beloved father," and expressing her grief, stating, "Our hearts are broken." Zered shared further reflections on the loss, highlighting her father's values, wisdom, kindness, sharp wit, and his dedication to tradition and his love for Israel and its people.

Her father passed away on the eve of a holiday, meaning the traditional seven-day mourning period, or shiva, was interrupted by the festival. Consequently, Zered and her family emerged from the shiva less than 24 hours after the funeral.

During the intermediate days of the Sukkot holiday, known as Chol HaMoed, the family decided to keep their home open to visitors. Zered explained that they built the sukkah in her parents' home, a sukkah her father particularly loved, and that mourners would be welcomed as guests, or 'ushpizin'. She extended an invitation to anyone who had not yet had the chance to pay their respects.

Zered concluded by thanking everyone who offered comfort and support during this difficult time, stating that the family is processing their grief and cherishing memories. Her late father, Shalom, immigrated to Israel from Morocco at the age of five, and her mother, Eva, arrived from Iraq shortly after her birth. Yaara is the youngest of four children, with two sisters and a brother.
