Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich launched a sharp attack on Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, accusing her of intervening in the election campaign and working on behalf of former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi. Smotrich's criticism stems from the Attorney General's demand to postpone the tender for construction in the E1 area.
Smotrich stated, "Gali Baharav-Miara is interfering in the election campaign and working for Ashkenazi, who announced he would stop construction in E1 to allow the establishment of a Palestinian state. I do not intend to allow her to do this and call on Judge Solberg to ensure that the Attorney General and her staff do not become active players within the election campaign."
The finance minister's remarks were made in response to the Attorney General's request to delay the tender for building in the E1 area, a move Smotrich views as politically motivated and detrimental to Israeli interests.
