Israel Embassy Seeks Israelis Missing Amid Extreme Weather in Nepal

Israel's embassy in Nepal announced Sunday that it is working to locate several Israeli nationals who have lost contact amid extreme weather conditions battering the country. Heavy and continuous rainfall has caused road blockages and transportation disruptions across various regions.

Among the Israelis unaccounted for are tourists in mountainous areas where access is difficult. The embassy is coordinating with local tour companies and guides to find those with whom contact has been lost. Efforts are also underway to assist in moving Israelis to safer areas, contingent on terrain conditions.

This situation follows a severe flash flood in Nepal approximately one month ago. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, that flood resulted in 919 deaths and left around 4,700 people missing on both sides of the border, including nearly 600 foreign nationals. The United States pledged $500,000 in aid for the flood-affected communities, with the State Department offering condolences for the lives lost in the Rasuwa district, where at least 54 American citizens, mostly tourists, were reported missing due to the floods and mudslides.
