New Bistro on Shenkin Street Offers Surprising Peach Pizza

A new bistro has opened on Shenkin Street in Tel Aviv, adjacent to the Shenkin Garden, by the owners of the popular "Late Night Pizza" in Levinsky Market. While the original establishment is known for its pizzas, this new venture, named "Laila Shenkin," is described as a bistro with a more modest pizza selection on its menu. The original "Late Night Pizza" location in Levinsky Market recently underwent renovations after a neighboring building collapsed in April during recent escalations with Iran. The owners successfully raised funds from the public for the repairs and reopened.

"Laila Shenkin" is situated in a charming location overlooking the garden, featuring a pleasant wooden balcony and an elegant interior. The reviewer sampled several dishes, starting with a tuna ceviche with green grapes and chives, which was described as tasty but small for its 92 shekel price. A 20% "happy hour" discount applied to the entire menu, which was appreciated, though the final bill remained high, typical for Tel Aviv.

The salad consisted mainly of lettuce with mango cubes and parmesan shavings, deemed fresh and excellent. The main course was a sea bass fillet baked in parchment paper with zucchini slices, served with a fennel, red onion, and cucumber salad, which was praised as a wonderful dish. The reviewer also tried the establishment's unique peach pizza, featuring goat cheese, mozzarella, rosemary, and spicy honey, topped with rocket leaves, pesto, and a hummus-like green sauce. Despite its unusual combination, the pizza was surprisingly delicious.

Dessert was a crepe suzette with grilled peaches and crème fraîche, also deemed a good rendition. The meal was accompanied by two glasses of French rosé wine. The reviewer concluded that the new bistro, located at 3 Nafha Street, is a delightful addition to the Shenkin Street area.
