Israel to Release Oct. 7 Atrocities Footage After Family Consultations

Israel has made a principled decision to release portions of the "atrocity footage" documenting the October 7th Hamas attacks, a diplomatic source confirmed to C14. The decision has the support of the political and security leadership, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and the IDF.

Currently, discussions are underway with the families of individuals whose loved ones appear in the graphic material. According to the source, segments for which family consent is not obtained will not be included in the public release, rather than being blurred. The IDF is handling the practical aspects of the release and communication with the families.

The footage has previously been shown in approximately 800 private screenings to audiences including senior officials, diplomats, and journalists, with over 20,000 people from more than 70 countries having viewed it. This move comes amid a public debate in Israel sparked by the film "Nezar," by Rachel Shorr and Yuval Avraham, which has reignited discussions about Israel's public diplomacy efforts in response to accusations against the IDF.

One proposed strategy for disseminating the atrocity footage involves distribution through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Israeli embassies, in addition to online platforms. The creators of "Nezar" recently presented their film in the United States, aiming to influence American public opinion, with one creator stating their goal was to make it harder to deny what is happening in Gaza.
