The military is weighing whether to release the full 47-minute video or a condensed version. This initiative is reportedly being spearheaded by the IDF's Planning Directorate, with support from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi. Despite accusations leveled against the IDF in the "Nezah" film, the military maintains its policy on targeted killings will not change, with one source stating, "We acted like a plumb line before, and a plumb line does not need to be straightened."
The "Nezah" documentary, which won an award at the Venice Film Festival, is set to premiere in U.S. cinemas on September 30th and will be screened independently in Europe. A cinema in the Netherlands plans to show the film on the anniversary of the October 7th massacre. Internally, professional recommendations suggest a shift in public relations strategy, advising against attacking the film's creators to avoid a backlash that could portray Israel as attempting to silence dissent.
Some diplomats have accused the Prime Minister's office of fueling the internal debate over the film for political and electoral gain, creating a conflict between international optics and domestic political needs. The IDF previously issued a detailed response to the film's claims, asserting that allegations regarding national and military strategy were beyond the knowledge of junior soldiers and that the film contained factual inaccuracies, misinterpretations of legal terms, and internal contradictions. The military also dismissed claims of intentional harm or genocide as absurd.
