Journalists Eldar and Segal Clash Over Book and Personal Attacks

Veteran Israeli journalists Shlomi Eldar and Amit Segal are engaged in a heated public dispute, escalating from professional criticism to deeply personal attacks. The conflict intensified after Segal sharply criticized Eldar's new book about the October 7th events, co-authored with Ruti Yuval.

In response to Segal's critique, which Eldar characterized as taking things out of context and distorting facts, Eldar posted a series of seven pointed questions on his Twitter (X) account. Eldar stated he had answered some of Segal's previous questions but Segal continued with more, implying his dissatisfaction with facts.

Eldar's questions directly challenged Segal's professional integrity and personal background. He asked if Segal's worldview was shaped by being the son of a convicted terrorist and questioned how Segal, a journalist for over two decades, had never found fault with Prime Minister Netanyahu, suggesting Segal had become a government propagandist.

Further personal attacks included Eldar asking if Segal was experiencing a "tantrum" and searching for out-of-context quotes due to distress over the exposure of himself and Yuval. Eldar concluded by questioning if Segal's reporting concealed financial interests.

This exchange follows an earlier public spat where Segal criticized Eldar and Yuval's book for alleged contradictions and attacked Eldar's long-held positions. Eldar sarcastically declared "the culprits for the massacre have been found" and called Segal "pathetic" and in a "tantrum." Segal retorted, advising Eldar to respond to facts with facts, not insults.
