Gafni Delivers Farewell Speech to Degel HaTorah Following Knesset List Removal

Moshe Gafni, a Member of Knesset, delivered a farewell speech at the annual Degel HaTorah party conference held in Haffetz Haim on Saturday night, following his and Uri Maklev's dramatic removal from the party's Knesset list. Gafni, who was appointed "Chairman of the Degel HaTorah movement" as compensation, attended the gathering ahead of the party's election campaign.

In his address, Gafni expressed gratitude to the party's representatives nationwide and reflected on the party's founding principles, emphasizing strict adherence to the directives of Torah leaders. He stated, "We stood the test and did everything they commanded us, and today too we will do what we are commanded." Gafni recalled initial doubts about the party's longevity when it was established, citing Rabbi Shach's guidance that they were embarking on a long path.

Gafni also discussed the party's alliance with Agudat Yisrael, noting the initial internal dissent when Degel HaTorah received 40% of the seats and Agudat Yisrael 60%. He highlighted the party's growth, particularly in Jerusalem and Bnei Brak, attributing their current dominance of 60% of the joint list to the efforts of the representatives present. He concluded by praising their work in leading the party to its significant successes.
