Ben Gurion Airport Sees Significant Drop in Flight Cancellations

Amidst the busy Rosh Hashanah holiday period, Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) has experienced a notable decrease in flight cancellations. Data compiled by FlyBack reveals that only 44 flights were canceled out of approximately 3,076 scheduled flights during the past week, marking a 23% reduction compared to the previous week's 57 cancellations. Despite this improvement, 27 additional flights faced delays exceeding eight hours, which are legally considered cancellations.

The most significant delay involved Red Wings flight WZ4311 from Sochi to Tel Aviv on September 26, which departed 17.5 hours behind schedule. Among airlines, Bluebird recorded the highest cancellation rate at 3.2%, canceling 10 out of 315 flights. Arkia followed with a 2.0% cancellation rate (8 out of 399 flights), and Wizz Air Malta with 1.9% (2 out of 105 flights).

Heraklion was the destination most affected by cancellations, with seven flights canceled. September 23rd was the busiest day for disruptions, with 16 flights canceled. Under Israeli aviation law, passengers on canceled or significantly delayed flights may be eligible for compensation up to 119,670 shekels per passenger, subject to individual assessment.
