The Tel Aviv District Court on Monday ordered the petition against Big Fashion Glilot’s Saturday operation to be dismissed, leaving the shopping and leisure complex in the Ramat Hasharon area open on Shabbat. The petition was filed by the Hapoel Mizrahi association and sought to force the site’s closure.
During the hearing, Ramat Hasharon Municipality outlined its enforcement policy and said a city bylaw meant to exempt the city from issuing fines on this issue is under ongoing review at the Interior Ministry. Attorney Limor Danielli Schuster, representing the municipality, said Ramat Hasharon is a secular city and, according to the city council vote, it should not issue fines to businesses for operating on Shabbat.
The judges concluded that the petition should be deleted. People familiar with the matter said a new petition on the same issue is expected to be filed later.
