The Tel Aviv District Court on Monday ordered the petition by the Hapoel Mizrahi association against the Saturday opening of Big Fashion Glilot to be dismissed, allowing the shopping and entertainment complex in Ramat Hasharon to remain open. The court said the petition should be struck out.
During the hearing, Ramat Hasharon municipality presented its enforcement policy and said the local bylaw intended to exempt the city from issuing fines on this issue is still under ongoing review at the Interior Ministry. Attorney Limor Danielli Schuster, who represented the municipality, said Ramat Hasharon is a secular city and, according to the city council vote, it should not fine businesses for operating on Shabbat.
People familiar with the matter said a new petition on the issue is likely to be filed later. The case concerns the continued operation of Big Fashion Glilot on Saturdays, which opponents had sought to stop through the court.
