Canada Affirms Support for Israel, Palestinians, and Iranian People

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has stated that Israel's right to exist is non-negotiable, while also affirming the Palestinian people's undeniable right to self-determination and statehood. Speaking at the United Nations, Anand announced Canada's intention to lead the adoption of a General Assembly resolution addressing human rights in Iran. She emphasized Ottawa's support for the Iranian people in their struggle against repression, advocating for their human rights, dignity, and the pursuit of a better future.

Anand identified Iran as a "primary threat to peace and security" in its region and stressed that Tehran must not acquire nuclear weapons. She also condemned Iran's threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, deeming them violations of international law. According to Anand, Canada, alongside partners from Gulf states and Europe, denounces Iranian attacks in the region and plans to employ pressure tactics, including targeted sanctions against the Iranian regime.
