Dekel Keinan Secures First Win as Orange County SC Coach
Dekel Keinan began his tenure as head coach of Orange County SC in the USL, America's second-tier soccer league, with a victory on Saturday night. The Israeli coach led his team to a 1-0 win over Pittsburgh, thanks to a dramatic late goal from fellow Israeli, Yaniv Bazini.
Bazini, a 27-year-old forward who previously played for Hapoel Rishon LeZion in Israel, scored in the 90th minute. He controlled a long pass that was poorly cleared by the Pittsburgh defense and fired a shot from the right side of the penalty area over the opposing goalkeeper.
This win marked Orange County SC's first victory since early August, ending a 27-game winless streak. The team currently sits fifth in the USL Eastern Conference with a record of 11 wins, 11 losses, and 5 draws, which currently places them in a playoff position.
In related news, former Maccabi Haifa goalkeeper Josh Cohen made a rare appearance for Chicago Fire in MLS. He started in goal due to the first-choice goalkeeper Chris Brady being called up to the US national team. Cohen made two saves in Chicago's 1-0 victory over Charlotte. Israeli players Liel Abada and Idan Toklomati were not involved in the match.
