Football Association Appeals Player's Red Card Over Goal Celebration

The Israel Football Association has filed an official complaint with UEFA following the expulsion of player Sayed Abu Farchi during a recent Nations League match against Austria. Abu Farchi received a second yellow card in the 55th minute of the 3-1 loss after celebrating a goal with a gesture that he claims mimics a snooker move. However, global media interpreted the celebration as imitating an opponent's goal celebration.

Shlomi Barzel, head of the Football Association's information department, stated at a press conference ahead of the upcoming game against Ireland that the association believes the initial yellow card was incorrect and the second was a result of the refereeing team's misunderstanding. "Everyone knows this is his usual celebration and it mimics a snooker move," Barzel explained.

This incident is not the first time Abu Farchi has celebrated with the same gesture. Several months prior, while playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Champions of Champions match, he received a yellow card from referee Aviv Klein for the identical celebration, but apparently did not learn from the experience.
