Google Pixel 11 Pro Review: A Solid Phone, But Lacks Standout Features

Google's Pixel 11 Pro is a capable smartphone, but it struggles to differentiate itself in a competitive market, especially following the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro. While the device offers a refined user experience focused on software and AI integration rather than raw specs, many of its unique features are expected to roll out to other Android devices, diminishing its exclusive appeal. The phone's design is largely unchanged, maintaining a compact form factor with a 6.3-inch OLED screen. It features a durable build with a matte finish, IP68 water and dust resistance, and improved scratch resistance on the screen. The display boasts a peak brightness of 3,600 nits, ensuring good visibility even in direct sunlight.

Internally, the Pixel 11 Pro is powered by the Google Tensor G6 chip, which prioritizes AI processing and energy efficiency over peak performance. While it offers a 20% improvement over its predecessor and handles everyday tasks smoothly, its GPU lags behind top-tier competitors, leading to potential frame rate drops and overheating during intensive gaming or prolonged use. The device comes with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and starts at 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

The camera system remains a strong point, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 48MP ultrawide camera. Google has enhanced the software with features like Camera Looks for custom image processing, Instant Night Sight for faster low-light photography, and advanced AI-powered zoom up to 120x. The Magic Capture feature automatically extracts the best stills and clips from video recordings. The phone runs a clean version of Android 17 and is promised seven years of OS and security updates.

Software innovations include the Rambler voice typing feature in Gboard, which intelligently filters out hesitations and filler words, and Proactive Assistance that offers context-aware suggestions in Google Messages. However, a new HiLight LED notification light on the back is deemed largely superfluous. The 4,850 mAh battery provides a full day of mixed usage, with wired charging at 30W and wireless charging at 25W. Despite its strengths in software, camera, and a clean user interface, the Pixel 11 Pro's compromises in graphics performance and the lack of truly unique, lasting features make it a difficult recommendation against strong competition, particularly the newly released iPhone 18 Pro.
