Ben Gurion Airport to Increase Passenger Fees, Potentially Raising Airfare Costs

Airfare prices from Israel could rise in 2027 due to increased airport fees at Ben Gurion Airport. The Israel Airports Authority has updated its tariffs for the upcoming year, with the fee for each passenger departing from Terminal 3 set to increase by over 11% in dollar terms, from $33.87 to $37.68. Passengers using Terminal 1 will see their fee rise from $15.61 to $17.36.

While airlines officially pay this fee per passenger to the Airports Authority, these costs are typically factored into ticket prices. The extent to which this increase will impact ticket costs will depend on individual airlines' pricing strategies, competitive market conditions, and whether carriers decide to absorb some of the additional expenses. Some airlines may choose to cover part of the increased costs themselves.

The Airports Authority stated that this is an annual adjustment based on a mechanism that considers the consumer price index and the dollar exchange rate. The adjustment for 2027 is 1.54%. The significant rise in dollar terms is partly attributed to a weaker dollar exchange rate, as the base fee is calculated in shekels. For major airlines handling hundreds of thousands of passengers annually, even a small increase per passenger can amount to millions of dollars in additional fees.
