Netanyahu Thwarts Ben-Gvir's Election Ambitions, Sources Say

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's aspirations to challenge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming elections have been significantly curtailed, according to reports. Ben-Gvir had launched a new campaign positioning himself for greater influence, seeking key ministerial posts like Defense Minister, while Tali Gottlieb aimed for Justice Minister. This move was intended to appeal to right-wing voters, signaling Ben-Gvir's ambition for more mandates and influence.

However, a recent meeting with Netanyahu, alongside "Religious Zionism" leader Bezalel Smotrich, reportedly altered the landscape. Leaked to the media, the meeting was framed as a coordination session for the right-wing bloc. This gathering contradicted Ben-Gvir's narrative that Netanyahu was distancing himself and unwilling to meet, suggesting instead that the Prime Minister was engaging with him on election strategy for their shared bloc.

Ben-Gvir has claimed that some of Netanyahu's associates are attempting to isolate him, arguing that associating with Ben-Gvir harms the Prime Minister's reputation. Ben-Gvir stated that while he and Netanyahu previously had a close relationship, this has recently changed, with Netanyahu reportedly no longer responding to his calls. This development follows earlier reports of a noticeable deterioration in their relationship.
