Hybrid Work Persists in Israeli Tech Despite Return-to-Office Push
Despite a global trend of major tech companies mandating a return to the office, hybrid work arrangements remain prevalent in Israel's high-tech sector. Data from recruitment firm Gotfriends indicates that in the first half of 2026, only 12% of tech jobs offered no option for remote work. Approximately 31% allowed one day a week from home, and 48% permitted two days, signifying that most positions still incorporate some form of hybrid model.
While employees continue to desire flexibility, the current industry downturn has weakened their bargaining power. Shiri Wax, CEO of Gotfriends, noted that while the desire for flexibility hasn't diminished, employees are less able to negotiate for it. She observed that only about 20% of candidates are willing to work five days a week in the office, with 50% now open to just one remote day, up from 40% previously, particularly among those recently laid off.
Global tech giants like Wix, Disney, Tesla, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft have all implemented stricter in-office policies, requiring employees to be present for multiple days a week, sometimes up to five. However, Gotfriends' data suggests these companies are at the forefront of a trend, and the broader Israeli tech landscape has not fully adopted such rigid models.
Conversely, some companies, like DoiT and Warmy.io, operate entirely remotely, emphasizing productivity and impact over hours worked. DoiT offers employees flexibility to work from co-working spaces if needed, while Warmy.io, with 120 employees across 14 countries, integrates remote work into its core culture, focusing on results and employee well-being regardless of location.
Other firms, such as Concentrix Israel and Zero Networks, adopt varied approaches. Concentrix offers a mix of fully remote, hybrid, and fully in-office roles based on client needs, while Zero Networks mandates four days in the office, allowing employees to choose their remote day. Both acknowledge the value of in-person interaction for collaboration, learning, and company culture, though they also highlight the need for active efforts to maintain social connections in remote or hybrid settings.
