Journalists Group Removes 22 Palestinians from Gaza Death Toll List Amid Terror Links
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has removed 22 Palestinians from its list of journalists and media workers killed in the Gaza war. This decision follows a review that uncovered new information regarding their alleged ties to terror organizations. The review was initiated after Hamas and Islamic Jihad published eulogies that identified some individuals on the list as combatants.
Among those removed is Abdallah Iyad Breis, who served as the chief photographer for Hamas's Ministry of Education television channel. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his family's home in Khan Younis refugee camp in January 2024.
The CPJ stated that it is committed to accurately documenting the deaths of journalists and will continue to verify information. The organization initially included Breis and others on its list based on information available at the time, but the subsequent findings necessitated the revision.
