Thousands Mourn Rabbi David Batsri in Jerusalem Funeral

Thousands of mourners gathered in Jerusalem for the funeral of Rabbi David Shalom Batsri, a prominent Kabbalist and head of the 'HaShalom' yeshiva, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday at the age of 85. The funeral procession took place shortly before the start of the Sukkot holiday.

Several prominent rabbis eulogized Rabbi Batsri, including Rabbi R. Elbaz, head of the 'Or HaChaim' yeshiva; Rabbi David Yosef, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel; Rabbi B. Shmueli, head of the 'Nahar Shalom' yeshiva; and Kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Ades.

Following the eulogies, the procession proceeded to the Sanhedria cemetery, where Rabbi Batsri was laid to rest beside his wife, Rebbetzin Tzipora, who also passed away on the eve of Passover. The timing of their deaths meant the family would have been able to sit shiva, the traditional seven-day mourning period, for less than two hours in both instances, due to the proximity to major Jewish holidays.
