Sukkot Holiday Entry and Exit Times Announced for 2026

The Jewish holiday of Sukkot, a seven-day biblical festival observed from the 15th to the 21st of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, will commence in 2026 with specific entry and exit times for various Israeli cities. During Sukkot, it is a commandment for all Jews to dwell in a sukkah, a temporary booth. The first day of Sukkot is a festival day, followed by six intermediate days known as Chol HaMoed. Sukkot is the third of the three pilgrimage festivals mentioned in the Torah, during which Israelites would journey to Jerusalem when the Temple stood.

While Sukkot does not have unique food traditions, it is customary to enjoy fruits for which the land is known. Immediately following Sukkot, on the 22nd of Tishrei, the separate festival of Shemini Atzeret is celebrated, to which the specific Sukkot observances like dwelling in the sukkah and taking the lulav do not apply. In Israel, the rabbinically ordained festival of Simchat Torah is observed concurrently with Shemini Atzeret.
