Maccabi Tel Aviv Opens EuroLeague Season Against Struggling ASVEL
Maccabi Tel Aviv is commencing its EuroLeague campaign for the 2026-27 season, facing ASVEL at the LDLC Arena in Lyon. Despite a strong domestic season where they secured the league and cup double, Maccabi had a disappointing European performance last year, finishing 12th in the regular season with an 18-20 record and failing to reach the playoffs.
The Israeli champions have had an active offseason, highlighted by the return of Bonzie Colson and the signing of Yam Madar, alongside other notable acquisitions. Their first official game of the season was a decisive 101-83 victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Social Super Cup.
Maccabi enters the matchup with high expectations, as they are set to play against what was the weakest EuroLeague team last season. ASVEL, now coached by legendary former player Tony Parker, finished last in the 2025-26 season, losing 30 games.
