Similarweb Names New CEO, Stock Dips Amid Leadership Transition
Web analytics firm Similarweb announced that Michael Ackerman will assume the role of CEO starting November 2, 2026, succeeding founder Orr Yarden after nearly two decades. This appointment concludes a leadership transition initially announced in May. The company's stock reacted negatively, falling over 7% on Thursday, despite Similarweb's assertion that the change would not impact its strategy, operations, or financial outlook.
Ackerman brings extensive experience in digital advertising, data, and technology, including his current role as Chief Business Officer at Digital Turbine, where he oversees sales, partnerships, marketing, product, and business operations. Previously, he served as Chief Revenue Officer at data.ai (formerly App Annie), focusing on go-to-market strategies for a market intelligence platform targeting Similarweb's enterprise clients. His career also includes leadership positions at Cardlytics, Uber, and Pinterest, as well as early work at Kenshoo, an Israeli-founded enterprise software company.
The board sought a leader with proven experience in commercial growth, strategy, and operations to guide the company's next phase. Ackerman, who will operate from Similarweb's New York offices, is expected to maintain the company's focus on the U.S. market and large enterprise clients. Founder Orr Yarden will remain involved during a transition period to ensure continuity with clients, partners, and employees.
In a statement, Yarden expressed confidence in Ackerman's ability to advance the company, noting Similarweb's successful transition to the AI era. Ackerman highlighted Similarweb's data assets and insights into digital usage patterns, emphasizing the growing importance of understanding human behavior as AI reshapes online interactions. The company is currently focused on expanding its AI-driven data products and accelerating commercial activities, aiming to be a platform for real-time behavioral and competitive analysis, not just a digital traffic data provider.
Despite the company's strategic focus on AI and growth, the stock market's reaction suggests investor caution regarding the transition from a founder-led company to external management, raising questions about pace, priorities, and cultural continuity.
