IDF Reservist Critically Injured in West Bank Car Ramming Attack

An Israeli military reservist, Neria Leiter, remains in critical condition following a car ramming attack near Benjamin in the West Bank. Dr. Alon Schwartz, head of the trauma unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, stated that Leiter's life is still in danger and will likely remain so for at least another 24 hours. "We had a very difficult night, filled with operations," Dr. Schwartz said. "I think in the coming days, when we can be sure that the brain hemorrhage has stopped and his condition begins to stabilize overall, including normalizing blood pressure, we will be able to say that the danger to his life has passed. This will require at least another full day." Leiter, the son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, sustained severe injuries when a vehicle rammed a police car and then a soldier on Route 443 between Beit Horon and the Maccabim checkpoint. Security forces believe the attack, which occurred near the Benjamin Regional Council, was likely premeditated. The suspected perpetrator is believed to be a terrorist from the nearby village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, who was familiar with the area.
