Musical Production Revives Kurdish Jewish Holiday Traditions

Ahead of the High Holidays, a new musical production titled "A Medley for Sukkot and Simchat Torah" has been released, aiming to revive the unique sounds, melodies, and atmosphere of these holidays within the tradition of Kurdish Jewry. The production, published on the "Heritage of Kurdistan Jewry" channel, blends ancient tradition with contemporary musical arrangement.

The medley features traditional singing and piyutim (liturgical poems) alongside instruments characteristic of Kurdish and Middle Eastern music, such as the saz and zurana, integrated with keyboards and modern arrangements. The vocals are performed by Yaniv Ovadia, Eyal Yamin, Daniel Ben Shlomo, and Uzi Shazo. Ovadia also contributes the saz and zurana sounds, while Tomer Agam plays keyboards and is responsible for the musical arrangement and production, alongside the Ethnika band under his management.

The visual setting for the production also emphasizes the connection to heritage and community. The Heritage of Kurdistan Jewry Center, managed by Rabbi Ben Or and Dawkar, provided the backdrop, and the "Brashi" synagogue hosted the filming, with its management also participating in the production. The center's management includes Rabbi Ben Or and Dawkar.

This musical medley is presented as more than just a holiday performance; it represents a desire to preserve and pass down the cultural and musical heritage of Kurdish Jews to future generations, a legacy maintained for centuries within synagogues, families, and communities.
