At the funeral of Sgt. Naveh Chabashosh at Mount Herzl on Sunday evening, his mother, Einav, revealed that she learned a few months ago that she is pregnant at age 46. In her eulogy, she said the pregnancy came as a complete surprise and asked how she was meant to carry it at her age.
She said that after officers came to the door and delivered the death notice, “in the great darkness that fell on our lives, I am carrying new life inside me.” She described the unborn child as a heartbeat that forces her to get up in the morning and keep living, after losing “my beloved child, my only son.”
Einav said the pregnancy has been difficult and began amid intense pain and a shattered heart, but promised her son, “I will guard it with all my might.” She added that she had strong pains from Thursday morning, “as if the body sensed and prepared for saying goodbye to you.”
She then asked Naveh to give her strength to keep going, to be the mother her daughters Noam and Nesya need, and, when his younger sister is born, to ask mercy from above and protect the whole family. She ended by thanking him for the privilege of being his mother and said, “You will be my son forever,” concluding with, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
