Dr. Iddo Netanyahu, the brother of Yoni Netanyahu, spoke to i24news about the 1976 Entebbe operation as the 50th anniversary of the raid and Yoni’s death was marked. He said the mission left a deep personal imprint on him and described the operation as extraordinary.
According to Netanyahu, the unit’s preparations took only a day and a half, while a model of Entebbe airport was built at the same time. He said the raid succeeded because there was a strong determination to carry it out.
He credited much of that outcome to Yoni Netanyahu, who commanded the force. In Netanyahu’s words, Yoni helped persuade officers who were skeptical about the raid’s chances of success, and also helped convince then Defense Minister Peres.
