Election Committee Rejects Bid to Disqualify Yair Golan's 'Democrats' Party

The Central Elections Committee has rejected a request by the Otzma Yehudit party to disqualify the "Democrats led by Yair Golan" list from running in the 26th Knesset elections. Otzma Yehudit had petitioned the committee to bar the list, citing two grounds: denial of Israel's existence as a Jewish and democratic state, and incitement to racism, as per Section 7A(a)(1) of the Knesset Basic Law.

Following deliberations, the committee held a vote on the disqualification request. The motion to disqualify was overwhelmingly defeated, with only two committee members voting in favor and 14 voting against. No members abstained.

As a result of the vote, the committee decided to dismiss Otzma Yehudit's petition, allowing the "Democrats led by Yair Golan" list to compete in the upcoming elections. The full decision is expected to be published on the Central Elections Committee website.

This ruling marks the conclusion of the committee's discussions on all petitions filed to disqualify lists for the 26th Knesset elections.
