Javier Bardem Backs Petition to Strip Pink of UNICEF Ambassador Title

Spanish actor Javier Bardem has amplified a social media petition calling for UNICEF to revoke the ambassador status of American singer Pink, who is of Jewish heritage. The campaign against Pink was initiated after she publicly criticized U.S. rapper Macklemore for what she termed anti-Israel propaganda. Macklemore had previously called for the liberation of Palestine during a performance, which reportedly led to his removal from concert lineups and the departure of other musicians associated with Ed Sheeran.

The petition's authors accuse Pink of taking a partisan stance incompatible with her role as a UNICEF ambassador. The document states that UNICEF's mission is to protect the rights and dignity of all children, irrespective of political beliefs or borders, and that an ambassador should champion these principles and support dialogue. Pink, in turn, explained her support for Israel by stating, "I was born Jewish. I did not choose it and I have never hidden it. I have advocated for the rights of other peoples throughout my career. Now I have advocated for my own. I thought I knew what loneliness I would face. It turns out I had no idea. But I still do it."

Pink's stance has drawn criticism from those who believe her support for Israel contradicts UNICEF's universal mission. The petition suggests her actions undermine the organization's neutrality and its commitment to inclusivity and dialogue.
